Audit-proof. Publicly shareable.

SOC 3 – the public proof of trust for your website and sales team

Would you like to share the results of your SOC 2 audit publicly—on your website, in your trust center, or in tender documents—without disclosing confidential audit details?

Then SOC 3 is the right certification for you. The report is based on a full SOC 2 Type 2 audit but omits the detailed description of controls and audit findings, making it suitable for unrestricted distribution.

Certinova guides you efficiently through the entire process—from readiness and the underlying SOC 2 audit to your publicly available SOC 3 report.

What is the difference between SOC 2 and SOC 3—and which report do we need?

Both reports are based on the same Trust Services Criteria and the same audit work. The SOC 2 report is detailed and contains the full description of your controls, audit procedures, and results. It is confidential and is shared selectively with individual customers under a non-disclosure agreement. The SOC 3 report is a condensed, publicly shareable version containing the auditor's opinion but without confidential control and audit details. If your enterprise customers require deep insight, the path leads to SOC 2. If you want to communicate your compliance broadly and without a prior NDA, SOC 3 is the ideal complement to your SOC 2 report.

Can we commission a SOC 3 without a SOC 2?

No. SOC 3 is not a standalone audit procedure but is derived directly from a full SOC 2 Type 2 audit. The audit work, the assessment of controls, and the Trust Services Criteria are identical—only the presentation in the report differs. In practice, many companies consciously choose to have both reports in parallel: SOC 2 for confidential sharing with individual customers, and SOC 3 for public communication. The additional effort for the SOC 3 report is manageable, as the audit foundation is already in place.

Where is it useful to use a SOC 3 report?

A SOC 3 report is suitable wherever you want to build trust without disclosing confidential audit details. Typical areas of application include your company website, trust center, sales collateral, investor pitch decks, tender responses, and due diligence processes in early sales phases. Especially in self-service and mid-market sales, the SOC 3 report replaces the time-consuming process of sending a SOC 2 report under NDA for every prospect inquiry—thereby noticeably accelerating your sales cycle.

We already have other certificates. Can evidence be reused?

Yes. If you already hold ISO 27001, BSI C5, TISAX, or comparable certifications, we map your existing controls to the relevant Trust Services Criteria of the underlying SOC 2 audit. Previously documented policies, risk analyses, and technical measures are incorporated into the audit, so you do not have to collect them twice. This significantly reduces internal effort and shortens preparation time. During the scoping call, we will identify together which existing evidence can be used and where additional work is actually required.
